1. JOHANN HEINRICH1 WESTERMAN was born April 21, 1829 in Prussia, and died January 29, 1897 in Indiana. He married ELIZABETH MARIE LOUISE SCHAFFSTALL WFT Est. 1850-1878, daughter of G. H. SCHAFFSTALL.
Notes for JOHANN HEINRICH WESTERMAN:
Very little is known about Henry. We know that he and his wife Elizabeth Maria Louise Schaffstall, came to America from Germany, but the date is unknown. He was born 21 April 1829 and died 29 January 1897 in Ripley County, Indiana. His wife was born 7 September 1837 and died 8 November 1910 at Sunman, Ripley County, Indiana, at the home of her son Henry. They are both buried at St. Johannes Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery at Penntown, Ripley County, Indiana. Theirs is a beautiful monument with the inscription written in German. The verse at the base of the stone reads: "Rest here in Holy peace beloved husband, beloved friend. Soon after our Saviours choosing I am there with you united." An obituary was found in the Batesville Tribune dated Thursday, 4 February 1897 stating: "Henry Westerman, an aged citizen living two miles north of this place, died Friday evening of lung trouble and was buried Monday, Feb. 1st." This was in the same paper: "Died--On Friday, January 29th, 1897, Henry Westerman, a well respected farmer, at the age of 68 years. The funeral took place at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1st, at Penntown, Rev. Buettner conducting the services at the Lutheran church. His wife and children and other relatives have the sympathy of all."

Little is known about Elizabeth Maria. The only obituary found for Elizabeth was found in the Versailles Republican on 16 November 1910:
"Mrs. Henry Westerman Dead of Heart Failure. Sunman, Nov 16--Mrs. Henry Westerman, living with her son Henry and family near Penntown, who was apparently enjoying good health, dropped dead Wednesday of heart failure. Deceased was 73 years old. Funeral and interment at Penntown Saturday. Richard Behlmer was undertaker in charge." I have one picture of Elizabeth with 4 of her sisters and her brother John. At this time, I have not found any information on these siblings. I suspect they lived in Cincinnati or Middletown, Ohio, but have yet to explore those avenues.
